Government Misconduct Investigations
Independent Investigations When Accountability Matters
Government agencies and public officials are entrusted with significant authority and responsibility. When questions arise concerning official actions, institutional compliance, or administrative conduct, an independent investigation can provide objective, evidence-based findings rather than assumptions.
Schraeder & Associates conducts specialized investigations involving allegations of government misconduct, civil rights violations, official misconduct, and administrative improprieties. These matters require more than simply reviewing an allegation; they require a thorough examination of the facts, available evidence, applicable policies and procedures, and the circumstances surrounding the actions under review.
The agency’s Principal Investigator brings decades of law enforcement and investigative experience involving in-custody deaths, officer-involved incidents, use of force, jail operations, administrative investigations, death investigations, and regulatory compliance. That experience provides a practical understanding of governmental operations and how official actions can be evaluated against established policies, accepted practices, constitutional requirements, and applicable professional standards.
Investigations may include comprehensive evidence review, witness identification and interviews, policy and procedure analysis, scene examination and documentation, public-records research, and review of relevant electronic and documentary evidence. Findings are developed through lawful, ethical, and objective investigative methods and documented through clear, professional reporting.
Every investigation is conducted with professionalism, integrity, independence, and objectivity. The role of Schraeder & Associates is to develop and document the facts—not to reach legal conclusions or advocate for a predetermined outcome. The resulting findings provide attorneys and clients with reliable, well-documented information they can use when evaluating the circumstances of a case and determining how to proceed.

my approach
Every investigation begins with a systematic review of the available evidence to establish an objective factual foundation. Depending on the nature of the assignment, I examine body-worn camera (BWC) footage, Axon TASER® event logs, in-car video, radio communications, dispatch records, investigative reports, photographs, and other documentary evidence to evaluate the facts against established policies, accepted practices, and applicable standards.
When appropriate, I conduct independent witness interviews, document scenes, analyze physical evidence, and review agency policies and procedures to develop a comprehensive understanding of the incident. Every investigative step is carefully documented to ensure factual accuracy, professional integrity, and reliable reporting.
